There are some small companies who makes really good products, but prefer to invest in quality rather than in brainwas... ehm... "advertising", giving more importance to customer satisfaction than to shareholder profits.
I know there are in the world some famous (because of fancy, expensive commercials) beers labeled "made in Italy", but the breweries producing them are now owned by very large holdings, of course not Italian. Besides, in Italy these beers are considered of mediocre quality.
So, to help a real high quality Italian product, I suggest you this nice lager beer: the Pedavena, made exclusively with water coming from Dolomites.
The Wikipedia page about the Birra Pedavena is available only in Italian, so here it is an abstract on the fly, because the story of this brewery is really intereresting.
The company took its name from the town of Pedavena, about 70 km northwest of Venice, and was founded in 1897.
In 1974 the Heineken bought the company and, in 2004, decided to close the factory. The workers then launch a web site - www.birreriapedavena.info/ - gathering over 27,000 signatures to ask Heineken to sell the factory instead of to close it.
In September 2005 the factory was closed, but in January 2006 a brewing company from Udine, Birra Castello - www.birracastello.it/ - bought it from Heineken, reopening in April 2006.
The workers accepted a reduced wage, 400 euro less than the Heineken offer, just to keep the factory in their own town.
A documentary about the Pedavena brewery (Italian only) was broadcasted by the TV transmission "Report" on October 22, 2006 (Transcript and video).
